Research into travelling at Warp speeds? Engage!

05 Mar

English: A representation of a Star Trek Warp ...

Two posts in one day – I’m on a roll! I stumbled upon this news article from last year and am fascinated by the possibilities talked about in it. A research team has suggested that it would be possible to travel faster than the speed of light using a real-life equivalent of the warp drives used in Star Trek.

If this isn’t enough to tickle your inner geek, they’re moving from just theorising about it to trying to distort space-time on a miniaturised scale. They’re actually doing research into this! Admittedly, it’s going to be a long way off – phrases like “exotic matter” (i.e. “a material we haven’t discovered yet”) don’t exactly make it sound imminent – but it’s enough to, once again, trigger dreams of travelling beyond our own solar system. As Mr Spock would say, “fascinating”.

Found this blog very interesting and “Engaging”. Wonder what else we see as science fiction at the moment becoming a possibility or reality?
